Lessons Learned

  1. Security First: Implementing security utilities early provides immediate benefits across all services.

  2. Infrastructure as Code: Terraform templates enable reproducible deployments and reduce manual configuration errors.

  3. Blue-Green Deployments: Zero-downtime deployments are achievable with proper health checks and traffic routing.

  4. Distributed Tracing: OpenTelemetry provides excellent visibility into service interactions and performance bottlenecks.

  5. Feature Flags: Gradual rollouts significantly reduce deployment risk and enable safer feature introduction.

  6. Architecture Decisions: Microservices are not always the right choice. Modular monolith provides many benefits without the complexity.

  7. Health Checks: Standardized health checks enable better monitoring and automated deployment decisions.

  8. API Versioning: Planning for versioning from the start prevents breaking changes and enables smoother evolution.

  9. Dependency Scanning: Automated vulnerability scanning catches security issues early in the development cycle.

Conclusion

All 26 tasks from the codebase analysis have been completed across short-term, medium-term, and long-term priorities. The AITBC codebase now has:
